Who bulk enquiries are for
Contractors finishing a project, factories upgrading production lines, warehouses disposing of old racking and yards with accumulated stock may all hold quantities worth discussing as bulk. Sorted material, such as a pile of one grade of steel, is the easiest to handle. Mixed loads can also be discussed.
Information we need for a bulk enquiry
- Metal types and an estimate of each, ideally in tonnes.
- Photographs of the stockpile or storage area.
- Site access: gate widths, ground conditions and permitted vehicle sizes.
- Loading arrangements: who will load, what equipment is on site.
- Collection location and preferred timing.
Weighing, segregation and valuation
Bulk material is typically weighed, and each category is assessed on its own. Segregating metals in advance reduces handling time and makes valuations clearer. Contaminated or mixed material may be treated differently from clean, sorted material.
The price and the terms, including how the weighing is witnessed and how payment is handled, should be confirmed before the transaction. Do not release material until terms have been agreed.
Planning tips
- Keep different metals in separate piles with clear access paths.
- Identify hazards such as sharp edges, unstable stacks or overhead obstacles.
- Arrange site passes and safety induction requirements in advance.
- Tell us about restricted working hours.
