Common copper scrap categories
- Bare copper wire – bright, uncoated strands with no insulation.
- Copper pipe and tube – plumbing pipe, air-conditioning line sets and offcuts.
- Copper sheet and busbar – flat copper from electrical panels and fabrication.
- Insulated copper cable – assessed differently because of the plastic around the metal.
- Industrial copper components – where the copper can be identified and separated.
Why identifying the copper type matters
Clean, bright bare wire and pipe with solder, fittings and insulation attached are not the same material. Copper that is oxidised, painted, tinned or joined to other metals may also be treated differently. If you can tell us which of these describes your material, and send a photograph, the conversation becomes much more productive.
Where practical, keep copper separate from brass fittings, steel brackets, aluminium fins and plastic. Mixed metals make material harder to describe and can affect how it is assessed.
How copper scrap valuation works
Copper valuation generally depends on the form of the material, how clean it is, the quantity and the market conditions at the time of the sale. Because market conditions move, any figure discussed is only meaningful for the actual material in front of both parties. The price is agreed after the material has been identified and weighed, before the transaction is completed.
Preparing your enquiry
- Photographs of the copper in good light, including a close-up of the metal.
- Whether it is bare, insulated, tubing or a mix.
- Estimated weight or number of bags, drums or bundles.
- Where the material is stored and how vehicles can reach it.
- Whether any other metals are attached or mixed in.
Details to confirm before a sale
Before you hand anything over, confirm the material category, how it will be weighed, the agreed price for that category, and the arrangement for collection or delivery. Having these points settled beforehand keeps the process simple for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you buy copper pipes as well as wire?
Copper pipes, tubes, offcuts and wire can all be discussed. Send a photograph and quantity so the material can be assessed.
Is insulated cable valued the same as bare copper?
No. Insulated cable contains plastic and is assessed differently from clean bare copper.
Should I strip the cable myself?
You may sort it, but never burn the insulation. Ask us first, as some customers prefer to sell cable as it is.
How do I know what my copper is worth?
The value depends on type, cleanliness, quantity and market conditions. Share photos and an estimated weight to start the discussion.
Can I sell copper mixed with brass?
You can enquire, but separating them where practical makes the material easier to assess.
